Music in the early years

Babies and Toddlers

Music Masters Music School introduces babies and young toddlers to music in a positive, fun-filled environment. Nurturing their instinctive ability to respond to music, our classes explore the musical foundations of beat, rhythm, and further develop listening and singing skills. Stimulating resources such as puppets, light percussive instruments and stories encourage even the quietest child to actively participate.

Sharing the class with their parents, grandparents and caregivers, this 30 minute class is an enjoyable experience for all and a wonderful introduction to music.

A recent Australian study found that “Children children who participate in shared music-making at age 3 are better prepared for school experiences at age 5
(2015, Early Childhood Research Quarterly, 31, p.113).

Music Masters Early Childhood Classes provide opportunities for your child to

- experience the musical fundamentals of beat and rhythm
- develop their listening and singing skills
- gain more control and co-ordination of their body movements
- extend their ability to relate to others, building self esteem
- most importantly, have fun and build a life long love of music

As the children grow their needs change

Older Little Ones

Once the children reach kindy and pre-prep ages they are able to focus for longer periods of time so the music lesson is extended to 45 minutes. Continuing to develop the musical fundamentals of pitch, beat and rhythm, concepts are further developed to include tone colour, dynamics and form. The children attend these classes without the parent or caregiver.

These music classes positively affect other areas of development and learning. Cognitive development is extended as they memorise songs and games. The children are constantly learning social skills … sitting in a circle, listening and responding to other children, and waiting for their turn to play an instrument. The motor development of the children is also enhanced as they move and respond to different styles of music.

The most important thing is to give children a positive, enjoyable experience of music and have fun.
